Additionally, RSM students Luca Pieleanu and Soham Samanta placed second and fifth respectively in the Individual Round of the competition.
RSM Team 1 was helmed by Alexander Amrhein, Jefferson Ji, Alice Kim, Luca Pieleanu, Soham Samanta, and Anand Swaroop. RSM Team 2 was led by Ilya Baturin, Emmett Chen, Andrew Kalashnikov, Kristiyan Kurtev, Alexander Mitev, and April Sun.
Later in the fall, nearly 11,000 RSM students took the AMC 8 and the AMC 10/12. The AMC 10/12 are challenging competitions that are the gateway to further opportunities, including the AIME and USAMO. Among the 186 students in our elite NMCP program (grades 8-11), an incredible 58 students earned invitations to take the AIME, representing an outstanding 31% of participants!
Students who achieve exceptional scores on the AMC 10/12 and the AIME are invited to compete in the USA(J)MO. This year, 4th grader Douglas Zhang was RSM’s youngest USAJMO qualifier.
On the USAJMO, seven RSM students earned honors, including, David Fox, Selena Ge, Adam Ge, Timur Kilybaev, Brandon Ni, Luca Pieleanu, and Jayden Zheng. On the USAMO, four students were awarded honors, including Raj Aryan, Samarth Das, Hansen Shien, and Vikram Sarkar.
At the start of the new year, 25,000 students registered for the 2025 International Math Contest (IMC). The IMC is an online challenge based on leading math curricula from around the world and is designed to give parents insight into how their children's math knowledge compares to that of their international peers. The Online Challenge also serves as a qualifier for the International Math Contest Round 2: a challenging Olympiad in the tradition of European Mathematical Olympiads with complex problems that promote a deeper level of thinking for even the most advanced students.
Math competitions were in full swing in the spring of 2025. At the Johns Hopkins Math Tournament (JHMT), RSM student Anay Sahu placed 1st in the Middle School Division, winning both the Individual and Relay rounds. Additionally, Team RSM Bay Area’s Middle School team placed 2nd and the High School team placed 3rd in the Proof round. The JHMT is an annual, student-run math competition designed for middle and high school students globally.
RSM students performed well at MOEMS, Mathematical Olympiads for Elementary and Middle Schools. This year, three RSM students received a perfect score on the competition, 16 students scored in the top 2%, 63 students scored in the top 10%, and 69 students scored in the top 50%. MOEMS is one of the most influential and fun-filled math competition programs in the United States and throughout the world.
